Who’s going to see U2 this weekend? That’s the only question on anybody’s mind this week if you live anywhere near Denver. It’s pretty exciting when the world’s most amazing band comes to town. And some people have been waiting a long time for this (this concert was originally scheduled for last year but postponed due to Bono’s health problems). A year is a long time for original ticket holders. However, I have been waiting 15 years for this.
I have loved U2 ever since I was in seventh or eighth grade, and they were the favorite band of my older brother and all his cool friends. I started listening to them as a way to be cool too, but then I realized something. They were great. Their music was accessible and their lyrics relatable. They had songs for when I was in a rocking out mood (like Red Hill Mining Town) and songs for when I was in a teenage funk (like Love is Blindness).
I guess listening to U2 did increase my coolness a bit, because my brother took me to New York City to see them in concert (Pop Mart Tour) for my high school graduation/birthday present. That was the first and only time I’ve seen them in concert – 15 years ago – until this coming Saturday when they will bring their 360 Tour to Invesco Field.
Do I still love them as much as I used to? But of course. U2′s long-sustained worldwide popularity is always credited to their ability to evolve as a band. After junior high and high school, their musical personality continued to shift along with my taste, and as I have become an adult, they have remained my number one band.
I got to experience them once as a child with my brother. Now I get to experience them as an adult with my husband. A band who stays around – and not just around, but RELEVANT – that long is indeed worth the wait.

So pumped for the concert!
Trying to find out the name of a song that was played between the Fray and U2 concert Saturday night. It was played right after a Rolling Stones song and believe it was a rap/dance combo. Thanks for anyone who can name that song. Loved the concert!!!!!
The concert was amazing!! Okay, so I am trying to remember the song you are talking about… I do remember “Satisfaction” being played, and then something cool right afterwards. I will ask around to see if I can figure it out for you. Thanks for commenting.
Hey; I stumbled upon your blog. I too have been waiting for a long time for U2 360. I saw them in 1997 in Edmonton (Popmart) and 2001 in Calgary (Elevation) and the added year-long wait due to Bono’s back surgery has been excruciating (although not as excruciating as back surgery I would imagine lol). I hope you had a blast. I’m getting pumped to rock out on Wednesday, June 1st in Edmonton.
Hi Matt! Thanks for your comment! I did have a blast. It was the best show I’ve ever seen. How was the Elevation tour? That’s one I didn’t get to see. But this show was seriously amazing. They really know how to leverage all the components – music, lights, video, etc. – to make an incredible spectacle. Oh, and they know how to make you dance
Enjoy the show in Edmonton!! Let me know how you like it!
