Denver Comic Con goes six feet under to unearth TV’s hottest stars. The locally-powered organization just announced the addition of three celebrities from AMC’s The Walking Dead to their already smoking hot guest list.

Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene), Steven Yeun (Glenn), and Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) will take over the Mile High City months after the shocking finale of their 2nd chart-busting season. And the Rocky Mountain region couldn’t be happier.

The demand and excitement for Denver’s first Comic Con, taking place Father’s Day weekend, June 15th-17th, 2012, has been so great that the organizers were recently encouraged to move up within the Colorado Convention Center. Originally positioned in the smaller Mile High Ballroom the event will move to Hall A upstairs with room to stretch out with over 100,000 square feet. Dr. Christina Angel (Co-Convention Director) explains: “We planned on the smaller space for our first year, but the response has been so overwhelming – from vendors, dealers, artists and attendees – that we quickly outgrew that space.

I should have known this would happen; Denver has such an amazing and diverse population of active and enthusiastic people, and we’re so proud to call it our home. After walking the sprawling space, I think everyone is going to be as excited as we are to give Denver the pop culture experience it so richly deserves.”

Lauren Cohan and Steven Yeun are the perfect pairing to appear together at the inaugural event as they play opposite each other as Maggie and Glenn, the budding romance that is contrasted against the apocalyptic world of
The Walking Dead.

Cohan, known as the fierce beautiful tomboy, Maggie Green, is no stranger to TV and film. She has just signed on for season 3 of The Walking Dead and has had pivotal guest star arcs on NBC’s fan-favorite Chuck and the CW hit The Vampire Diaries. On the big screen, Cohan has appeared opposite Heath Ledger in Casanova, starred in Van Wilder2: The Rise of Taj and appeared in the ironically-named Death Race prequel Death Race 2. Cohan’s other television credits include a guest spot on ABC’s Modern Family and a series regular role on the CW’s Supernatural.

Yeun, who plays the very popular and ever reliable Glenn, got his start in the Chicago Improv scene. And it wasn’t long before he had a cameo in the critically-acclaimed and top rated sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, as Sheldon’s former roommate. He has also appeared in Law and Order as well as several short films.

Chandler Riggs plays the youngest lead role, Carl Grimes, son of Rick and Lori who is the inquisitive boy struggling to understand the new world into which he has been thrust. The ten-year-old Riggs has several commercial credits. He appeared in the Lifetime Movie The Wronged Man and had his feature film debut in the Sony Pictures Classics film Get Low.

Wearing brooches is the common theme everyday of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. She made wearing pins her sticking point after the Iraqi government called her an “unparalleled serpent.” Albright boldly responded by wearing a golden serpent pen at hernext meeting with the Iraqis. “I found that jewelry had become part of my diplomatic arsenal,” reveals Albright.

Her collection has grown to include hundreds of pins including both costume and antique pieces. From bugs to flowers and doves to flags, each piece delivers a deliberate message. While in Denver to introduce her 200 piece personal collection on display at the Denver Art Museum, Albright wore a cowboy boot brooch to represent her home state and where she bought her first pair of boots in high school.

Albright says the pressure to wear pins can be overwhelming. “We’ve basically created a problem. When I exercise it’s not a good time to wear pins.” But when she is wearing them you can always tell her mood. She discovered the power of jewelry to convey a foreign policy message. They express high hopes, determination, impatience and warm feelings. Simply, her pins have a purpose.

“Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection” is at the Denver Art Museum through June 17.

Public tours are available weekdays at two and weekends at 3.

One of CLVR’s clients, Ink Monstr, a custom graphics & printing company headquartered in Denver, CO, has some awesome gigs. One of their most recent is this helicopter wrap project they did for none other than Red Bull.

As you may have seen on NBC, the annual Red Bull ski competition titled “Cold Rush” was just aired on national television. Each year, Red Bull brings some of the best skiers in the world down to Silverton, CO in March and puts on an amazing back country competition filled with hugh jumps, cliffs, and steep lines.

Red Bull hired their trusty friends over at Ink Monstr to wrap the aircraft again, and steeze out the official Red Bull Helicopter for the event. With a collaborative effort on the design, and utilizing the help of our trusted and best installers, Ink Monstr and crew completed this in flying colors.

So what if JFK died here, so what if JR lied here, and so what if Jerry Jones wins another Super Bowl. In a city obsessed with status toys, trophy wives, and designer drugs, The Prophet Bar stirred up Dallas and made waves by challenging its belief systems with controversial booking, provocative advertising, and promoting a counter-culture of seekers. Russell’s message to seek truth, be real, and leave the cloning at the mall behind resonated with Dallas and multitudes converged upon Deep Ellum.

The Prophet Bar became the epitome of a movement, much like the 60’s, where a generation was saying, “There must be more”. The Prophet challenged the city with music, theatre and special events transcending the traditional bar scene. Many bands got their start at The Prophet Bar and have gone on to great success. Russell named Reverend Horton Heat, hosted The New Bohemians, TimBuk3, Mo Jo Nixon, Screaming Jay Hawkins, the True Believers, the Smithereens, and many more.

Dallas has been a city with weak leadership, held hostage by unresolved racial issues. In the 1860’s, when the slaves were set free they established their own “Freedman’s Town” east of downtown.There was hope and liberty. People were inspired to make a better life. The oppression was still a reality; it just changed forms from steel chains to segregation and soon hopelessness set in. Freedman’s Town was singing the blues and became known as “Deep Ellum”.

Today, Dallas has millions of slaves in bondage to Materialism, dead religion, and lust. Now, The Prophet Bar operates in the spirit of Freedman’s Town for those who love art and music and will dare to step out of the parade of the status quo. The Prophet Bar is back in Deep Ellum, shining the light in a dark corner of town for all those who seek something more.

On April 12, 2011, Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, friends who had met at Berklee College of Music in Boston, uploaded their cover of Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now” to YouTube. Before they knew what was happening, the video had been viewed millions of times (61,000,000 to date), and Nick and Amy (together called Karmin) were appearing on talk shows like Ellen, getting noticed by the likes of Ryan Seacrest, Ashton Kutcher, Perez Hilton, and Questlove (producer for The Roots), and signing a record deal with LA Reid and Epic Records.

Now Karmin, the “The Little Band with the Big Sound” is working on their first original album, “Hello”, which will be released in April.

It may seem like just another fluke-video-gone-viral, but there is nothing typical about this ”hip pop” duo. CBS News’s term for them is “phenomenal”, and it truly is incredible what this couple can do, armed only with two voices, a guitar, and a wooden box.

Karmin has recently appeared on SNL, and is listed on MSN’s 2012 New Artists to Watch. Watch the video that started it all (click View Now above).

If there is anywhere you want to be frozen in time it’s at the Silverthorne Ice Castles. A base structure of more than 100,000 icicles placed one by one then fused together then sprayed with water create dramatic structures made only of water turned ice. Each day up to 5,000 icicles are harvested at the icicle farm on-site. After freezing overnight, crews attach the icicles to the existing structures. There are no supporting substructures, or additives in the water- everything is made purely of ice.

Come night, sprinklers turn on creating towers, spires, walls, tunnels and cascades. Right now the tallest tower is about 30 feet tall- by March it could be much taller.  Paths are carved in the largest tower giving you the freedom to explore and see an inside look of the masterpiece. An array of colored lights flipped on at sunset enhances the Ice Castles.

Who is behind the brilliant idea? The Ice Castles first sprung up in Midway Utah but with a mild winter forecasted in the Beehive state creator, Brent Christensen, packed up his idea for Colorado. After building an ice fort for his kids in his front yard two years ago, curious crowds kept mingling. Christensen soon realized he was on to something bigger than he expected. Going grandioso the next year, he built 30 towers spectacular towers at a public park.

The infamous Redman took to the stage on Friday night for an epic concert during SIA weekend in the beautiful Mile High City. CLVR was there to indulge in a little of the party and snag some film (soberly, of course) for one amazing interactive video.

Free to enter and free to drink, guests piled into the InkMonstr sponsored event early. The Free4All Vol. 2 got kicked off with performances by BrikAbrak, Whygee, and Gypdahipwent. By then, The Hall, a once warehouse turned event center, was brimming with SIA guets and Denverites alike.

The free bar with sexy bartenders, a warehouse in Downtown Denver, the glorious SIA, and this exclusive event seemed ready for some delicious hiphop, courtesy of Redman. Redman, who broke out onto the scene in the nineties, has since been exhibiting his lyrical genius with solo releases as well as duo releases with Method Man (of Wu-Tang Clan).

Redman took the stage, took the crowd, and he took the night. It was an amazing night spent indulging in delicious adult beverages and good ‘ol fashioned hiphop, courtesy of Redman.
